Installation of three PURPLEi HP propane heat pumps for the energy efficiency of a skating rink in the Netherlands.

The main objective of the project was the energy efficiency and heating cost reduction of a multi-purpose sports complex. The facility, which houses a 30x60-metre skating rink, meeting rooms and a bar, required a versatile and high-performance plant solution.

Among the initial design evaluations, the installation of chillers was considered, but this option would not have met all the facility's requirements. The choice therefore fell on a reversible, monobloc and fully electric system, a single solution for all the facility's energy requirements.

Three PURPLEi HP propane heat pumps were installed, with a total output of approximately 400 kW, offering numerous operational and environmental benefits:

Simultaneous heating and cooling, enabling flexible and efficient management of the facility’s different areas.

Use of the natural refrigerant R290 (propane), which has a low environmental impact and offers high energy performance.

Inverter technology, allowing continuous modulation of the output power based on actual demand, thereby preventing energy waste.

Full electrification of the system, leading to significantly lower operating costs and supporting a sustainable, long-term approach.

To ensure centralized and optimized control of the units, the three heat pumps have been installed in cascade and managed via the Manager Pro supervision system, which simplifies both operation and maintenance.
